# Referral Settings

> Activate the referral programme and set friend and referrer rewards, expiry, and monthly caps

## Introduction

The **Referrals** settings page configures your refer-a-friend programme: whether it is Active, the fixed-amount rewards for friends and referrers, reward expiry, and optional monthly caps.

Referrals share the same plan feature as [Loyalty](/loyalty) but are a **separate** programme — you can run referrals with loyalty paused. For how earning works (checked-out first paid appointment) and where clients find their link, see [Referrals](/programmes/referrals).

## Accessing Referral settings

1. Go to **Settings** in the sidebar
2. Click **Referrals**

You can also open **Programmes → Referrals** in the sidebar — it uses the same settings.

**Access:** needs the **Manage referrals** or **Manage settings** permission, and a plan that includes loyalty/referrals.

## Programme status

The **Programme** row switches between **Paused** and **Active**.

* Rewards can be configured while paused
* Clients only see their share link once the programme is **Active**

## Rewards

* **Friend reward** — welcome discount the referred friend can use on their first appointment
* **Referrer reward** — discount the existing client earns once that friend's first paid appointment is **checked out** (non-zero value)
* Both are **fixed currency amounts** only — there is no percentage option
* **Reward expiry** — how many months an issued reward stays usable
* **Monthly cap** (optional) — limits how many *earned* referrer rewards one client can receive per month
